Proton-proton collisions at production thresholds
Recent results obtained by the COSY – 11 collaboration concerning the production of η and η mesons in the pp → ppMeson reaction are presented. A comparison of the production amplitude for the π, η and η mesons at the same phase space volume allows to conclude that the proton η interaction is in the order of, or smaller than, the proton-π one. A total cross section determined in a preliminary an...

The paper in this issue by Taylor reviews the experimental discovery of quarks in deep-inelastic scattering (DIS). Altarelli (1989) reviewed how quantum chromodynamics (QCD) provides the rules governing strong forces that hold quarks inside the nucleon. The remaining papers in this issue discuss the status of current issues on these important subjects. This makes me wonder what I am supposed to...

متن کاملProton and Neutron Superfluidity in β-stable Neutron Star Matter
We investigate the effect of a microscopic three-body force on the proton and neutron superfluidity in the 1S0 channel in β-stable neutron star matter. It is found that the three-body force has only a small effect on the neutron 1S0 pairing gap, but it suppresses strongly the proton 1S0 superfluidity in β-stable neutron star matter. متن کاملNeutron reactions in astrophysics
The quest for the origin of matter in the Universe had been the subject of philosophical and theological debates over the history of mankind, but quantitative answers could be found only by the scientific achievements of the last century. A first important step on this way was the development of spectral analysis by Kirchhoff and Bunsen in the middle of the 19th century, which provided first in...
